A thorough explanation of how to use the mountaineering app "Mountain and Plateau Map Hodai"! Support for planning and local actions

The explanation screen here is for the iPhone version, but there is no big difference for the Android version. First, let's download "Mountain and Plateau Map Hodai".

Open the app and tap "Menu" at the top left of the screen.

All settings for Mountain and Plateau Map Hodai can be made from this menu screen. Functions are limited in the newly downloaded state, so please complete the subscription procedure from "Login/Subscription".

Tap "Subscribe", and after registering as a member, tap "Menu → Map list".

At this point, the map list is empty.

Next, tap "Download" to download the map of your destination.

When the download is complete, check the downloaded map from "Menu → Map List". Tap "View Map" to display the map.

A map of mountains and plateaus was displayed on the screen. First of all, in this state, it is a good idea to mark the places and routes you want to go.

Choose an approximate route while checking the difficulty level and notes.

Once you have decided on a rough route, tap "Create Plan" on the top right of the screen.

Climbing App

The trail has changed from red to orange. In this state, you can select destinations and routes and create plans. First, let's decide on a starting point.

When you tap the start point, the above dialog is displayed, and the start point is set with "OK".

Once you've determined your starting point, that location has flipped to the green. From here, tap the route to your destination.

Tap the orange point to automatically calculate the best route.

When the uphill route is completed, decide the downhill route and finally tap the goal point.

Now you have a route like the one above. Next, tap "Itinerary" at the bottom right of the screen.

On the itinerary screen, you can edit the time multiplier, departure time, and break time.

The "time multiplier" in this indicates the walking pace, and x 1.0 is the standard course time. The standard course time assumes climbers aged 40 to 60, a party of 2 to 5 people, equipment for hut use, and sunny summer days.

The walking pace depends on the member's ability and weather conditions, so consider it as a guideline. That said, the standard course time of x1.0 is usually fine.

Next to the walking pace, set the rest time. The recommended way to take a break is to take a 5-10 minute break every hour. That way, you can take a break before you get exhausted, and this is the trick to keep walking without getting tired. Don't forget to add 30 minutes to an hour to your lunch break.

This completes the climbing plan. Review it again, and if there are no problems, tap "Save" at the top right of the screen.

Edit the name of the climbing plan and tap "OK" to complete.
