How to secure and use water when water is cut off

Securing water when water is cut off

Due to the influence of typhoon No. 15, water outage continues in various places such as Chiba prefecture.

The cause of this water outage is a power outage. Due to a power outage, the water purification plant will not work, the pump will not work, and water will not be able to be drawn or sent.

In the case of condominiums and other condominiums, water is pumped up from the water supply pipe to the water tank on the roof, but it has stopped due to a power outage. In addition, the elevator will stop, making it difficult for people living on the upper floors to go shopping for water or bring the water they bought to their homes. Since the power supply for each household and the power supply for the common space are different, there are cases where the electricity in the house is on but the water supply is off.

Water supply from the Waterworks Bureau is basic

The basis of securing water is the water supply of the Waterworks Bureau. First, check the information on water supply on the website of the Waterworks Bureau.

It is better to use a plastic tank when supplying water. It is easy to carry if you have a type with a capacity of 10 liters in both hands. You can also carry it in a carry bag. If you don't have a plastic tank because it's an emergency, you can use a container with a closed lid, such as a 2 liter PET bottle. This is also convenient to put in a carry bag.

After supplying water, attach a tag or cellophane tape to the container, and write down when the water was supplied with a magic pen. You can drink it for 3 days in a dark and cool place. However, be careful as germs will be mixed if you put it directly on your mouth.

Utilize rainwater for domestic water (not drinking)

The rain that begins to fall includes dirt in the air and the roof, but the quality of the rain that has continued for about 30 minutes is close to that of distilled water. You can put it in a bucket from a rain gutter, or collect rainwater directly with a basin or a poly bucket, and use it for flushing the toilet, washing, wiping your body, washing dishes, etc.

Utilize clean spring water for domestic water (not drinking)

The figure below shows how to distinguish clean spring water.

However, even if it looks beautiful, it may be contaminated with germs, so boiling disinfection or simple sterilization is performed.

● Simple filtration

1) Make a homemade water purifier as shown in the figure.

2) Filter with a water purifier to make simple filtered water.

3) Use two homemade water purifiers in combination in two stages.

● Simple disinfection

Simple filtration cannot remove substances that are dissolved in water, and bacteria removal is incomplete. Therefore, sterilization with sodium hypochlorite is performed at the end, as is done at water purification plants.

1) Fill three PET bottles (2 liters) prepared separately with the simply filtered water.

2) Add a few drops of chlorine bleach (the same ingredient as the disinfectant at the water purification plant) to one of the three PET bottles. Chlorine-based bleach should be "bleach" or "highter". "Kitchen Higher" cannot be used because it contains detergent.

3) Mix the PET bottle water containing chlorine bleach with the other two PET bottle water to dilute the chlorine. Be careful how to dilute the bleach.

Stay healthy while saving water

A person needs 2 liters of water a day to survive. More water is needed on hot days. First, secure 3 liters of drinking water, and devise other water usage. Depending on the water purification facility, the amount of water stored may be small. The water saving methods are summarized below.

・ Even if the water is cut off, it can be drained manually if the sewer is not broken. Flush with about 7 liters of water in a bucket.

・ Water can be saved by putting sand, sawdust, etc. in cardboard to make a simple toilet.

1) Cut your nails

2) Remove mud between fingers and wrinkles

3) Sprinkle water with a watering can, etc.

4) Thoroughly wash your hands with soap

5) Rinse with water using a watering can, etc.

1) Clean teeth and spaces with a toothbrush

2) Wipe off the dirt on the toothbrush with a tissue.

3) Gargle a few times with a small amount of water

4) If you don't have a toothbrush, wipe off the plaque with a clean towel and gargle.

1) Be in a shaded and well-ventilated place

2) If the gymnasium window does not have a screen door and cannot be opened, attach a mesh to prevent insects from entering.

3) Replenish water once every 30 minutes to 1 hour

* It should be avoided as much as possible when water is cut off, but there may be cases where it is necessary.

1) Avoid sunlight with a hat, towel, sunscreen, etc.

2) Drink water and stretch before starting work.

3) Wet a quick-drying towel with water and wrap it around your neck (a towel that does not dry easily may get too cold).

4) Set an alarm every 30 minutes to rehydrate and replenish salt.

5) If you are not feeling well, make a soft noise and do not try too hard.

6) Don't miss the signs of people around you who are not feeling well

7) If you feel hot flashes, dullness, or headaches, go to a shaded and well-ventilated place. Loosen your clothes.Cool the back of the neck, the base of the arms and legs

Mix 1 liter of water, 40 grams of sugar and 3 grams of salt.

Wash using a washboard, etc.

Wrap the tableware so that it does not get dirty. It may be a paper plate.

1) Start from the head. Wet your head by drawing hot water from a bucket in a small container (using a PET bottle cut in half). At this time, place a washbasin under your head so that the flushed water can enter the washbasin. When the basin is full of flushed water, scoop up the water in the basin to wet your head. The hot water is also received in the washbasin.

2) Wash your head with shampoo, put the hot water in the basin in a container, and rinse. After rinsing to some extent, rinse with a bucket of clean water to finish.

3) Pour hot water from the bucket into a container, wash the body, and flush it.

Finally, I pray for your health and recovery as soon as possible.
