I tried using Windows as a free tethering access point & stabilization TIPS [wireless LAN router]

Since my home wireless LAN router "WR8700N" broke down, I was thinking of replacing it with BUFFALO's "WXR-1900DHP".

So, for the time being, I decided to turn my Windows PC into a wireless LAN router, so I made a lot of notes.

Although the method is already known, I will write it as a memo for myself along with tips on stable operation.

This time, we are testing with a configuration of Windows 8.1 PC + wireless LAN interface + wired LAN NIC that can connect to the Internet.

Share wired LAN internet with wireless LAN. is the form.

If you have a PC with a built-in mobile line such as LTE, there is an easier way to tether, so it is better to use that.

First, open a command prompt with administrator privileges.

For Windows 8.1, right-click the Windows logo at the bottom left and select "Command Prompt (Admin)".

Next, run the following command at the command prompt.

# Set SSID and password netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=SSID name key=password keyusage=persistent# Start Wi-Fi hotspot netsh wlan start hostednetwork

SSID name and password are Please replace with your own. You can use this command as is when updating the SSID and password.

You can also use the following commands to control and check the status of this Wi-Fi access point.

# Stop Wi-Fi Hotspot netsh wlan stop hostednetwork# Show Wi-Fi Hotspot status and details netsh wlan show hostednetwork# Show Wi-Fi Hotspot security information netsh wlan show hostednetwork setting=security< /pre>

After that, you can use the PC's Internet connection by setting the SSID/password that you set earlier on the Wi-Fi setting screen of your smartphone/PC.

By the way, the security of the Wi-Fi access point made by this method seems to be WPA2-PSK.

The Wi-Fi access point made by this method stops when the PC shuts down or goes to sleep. Therefore, when starting up, it is necessary to operate the PC and start the wireless LAN again. (netsh wlan start hostednetwork command)

In addition, "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter" is added as a NIC.

If you "disabled" this network connection by mistake, when you start the wireless access point you will get the message "The hosted network could not be started. The group or resource is in the proper state to perform the requested operation." is not" error will appear.

In this case, you need to restart your PC, open "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter" from the device manager, and "enable the device".

Well, it's a client OS version of Windows, and there may be a lot of things to do, but actually using this method has a lot of quirks. You may lose connection.

So, I will write TIPS for stabilization.

In our environment, it has become stable with the settings so far.

The WXR-1900DHP is reasonably priced at around 23,000 yen, so be careful not to rip it off.
