When I connected ASCII ASCII Amazon Echo and Rumba, Rumba became more lovable.
The big favorite of a smart speaker lands in Japan!Amazon's "Amazon Echo series" that appeared with such a momentum. As mentioned in the first impression, one of the charms is that various functions can be added to the assistant function "Alexa" in the form of a smartphone "app" called "skill".
There are a wide variety of things that characters speak (sounding) instead of Alexa to those that read out the news, food recipes, etc., but speaking of smart speakers, "Smart Home" related "Smart Home" is more convenient. It can be said that the attention is high.
This time, I tried to operate one of them, Rumba, a robot vacuum cleaner of an i robot, via Echo, so I will report on the preparations necessary to use.
First, set up Rumba
There are four models that can be operated with Alexa, Rumba 980/960/890/690, which can be connected to Wi-Fi.In addition to this compatible model, it requires a network environment such as Amazon Echo, wireless LAN routers and Internet lines in addition to this compatible model.
These four Rumba will be a model that can operate variously with iRobot Home in the iOS and Android application, and if the setup with IROBOT HOME has already been completed, it can work with Alexa without any problems.
This time, I checked the flow from the box for verification.
Download the iRobot Home app, of course free. The screen is iPad version
Immediately after the app starts, you need to log in to the iRobot account. After that, select the product you want to operate (this time ROOMBA)
After that, check if the necessary environment is in place
Place the "home base" of the Rumba local position and charging stand in advance.
Enter the SSID and password you want to connect to save Wi-Fi information in Rumba. At present, the connection destination does not seem to support the 5GHz band wireless.
If Wi-Fi information is correctly recorded in Rumba
It will be operated from the iRobot Home app immediately
Next, connect Alexa and Rumba with "skill"
For the time being, after confirming that the rumba moves, the next is to set up the Alexa side.Since the initial settings of Alexa have already been completed, I started to install the skills provided by I robot in Alexa.
Echo is located in a different room from the room where Rumba is placed, but Echo and Rumba are currently on the same network.
Tap "Skill" from the slide menu of the Amazon Alexa app
Search for "IROBOT HOME" skills and tap "Enable" on the screen
After that, you need to enter your iRobot account, so enter the email address and password set at the first setting.
If you can enter your account safely, Alexa and Rumba will be linked.
