Mazda's first EV "MX-30 EV MODEL", the reason why I felt "EV that is not like EV at all"
Mazda's first mass-produced EV debuts
The "MX-30 EV MODEL" was born as Mazda's first mass-produced EV (electric vehicle). It has a very good reputation in the European region, which was released in advance, and since the launch in the fall of 2020, a total of 10,000 units have been sold by the end of December. Especially in Germany, subsidies from the government and others are boosting the situation, and the situation is favorable.
On the other hand, in the Japanese market, the "MX-30" equipped with the mild hybrid system "M HYBRID" was introduced in September 2020, and the EV model (the vehicle covered by this interview) was launched in February 2021. (At present, there is no MX-30 M HYBRID model in the European market).
Furthermore, as a sequel to the MX-30's electrification plan, a range extender model equipped with a rotary engine will be added in 2022 based on the EV model. In addition, the "Electrified Multi-Solution" announced in November 2020 revealed the existence of a plug-in hybrid model as a next-generation power train. Until recently, Mazda was said to be far behind in electrification, but as soon as the curtain of 2021 opened, it turned to a sales offensive as if it had cut a weir.
Under such circumstances, I was the first to test drive the MX-30 EV MODEL, which is attracting attention in every sense, on public roads. If you express the features of the MX-30 EV MODEL in one phrase, it's an EV that doesn't look like an EV at all. It's a misunderstanding, but the author's evaluation of the MX-30 EV MODEL is very high.
The test drive this time was Mazda's first mass-produced EV "MX-30 EV MODEL" (2WD), which was just released on January 28th. The grades are "EV", "EV Basic Set" and "EV Highest Set", and the test drive is the EV Highest Set for 4.95 million yen. The body size is 4395 x 1795 x 1565 mm (total length x total width x total height), and the wheelbase is 2655 mm. The vehicle weight is 1460kg (2WD) of the M HYBRID specification, but there is almost no difference in appearance from the M HYBRID specification which is 1650kg. "Badge (M HYBRID specification badge is" e-SKYACTIV G "), about the charging lid on the right side of the car body. Bridgestone "TURANZA T005 A" (215 / 55R18) is set on 18-inch aluminum wheels with high-brightness dark paint. The motor, inverter, DC-DC converter, and junction box are integrated as a high-voltage unit and mounted on the front of the vehicle. The maximum output of the motor is 107kW (145PS) / 4500-11,000rpm, and the maximum torque is 270Nm (27.5kgfm) / 0-3243rpm. The basic layout is the same as the M HYBRID specification, although there are differences such as the meter that the one-charge mileage in WLTC mode is 256km.In the MX-30 EV MODEL, the connected service and the smartphone app "MyMazda" are linked, and you can use the "remote monitor" function that allows you to check the car status such as the battery level and air conditioner operating status with the MyMazda app.
