Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. announced on October 1 that it plans to release a compact SUV "Rocky" that uses a 100% motor-driven series hybrid system "e-SMART HYBRID" in November 2021.

From the same day, a new "Rocky" teaser site was opened on the company's official website, some information was released, and a test drive reservation campaign was started. The teaser site introduces that the new Rocky is equipped with a newly developed 1.2-liter engine optimized for hybrids.

Specifically, it is tuned for hybrids by refining the basic characteristics of an in-line 3-cylinder 1.2-liter long stroke engine and adopting new technologies such as the "high tumble straight port" that realizes highly efficient high-speed combustion. It is said that it has achieved a high thermal efficiency of up to 40%. In addition, hybrid vehicles are dedicated to power generation, so driving in an efficient rotation range will contribute to low fuel consumption.

The e-SMART HYBRID installed in the Rocky runs on a 100% motor, ensuring top-level power performance in the compact SUV class.
