BMW iX xDrive50 (4WD) [Test drive] Pride of an engine shop
In a nutshell, the iX is BMW's flagship pure EV. Exterior design that combines a body form that emphasizes a sense of mass with a large vertically elongated grille, thin headlamps and rear combination lamps, and side panels that eliminate unnecessary lines is exactly the latest BMW style. And if a car lover sees it, it's a BMW no matter where you look at it.
It is difficult to understand the size without a comparison target, but the body size of total length x width x height = 4953 x 1967 x 1695 mm is almost the same footprint as BMW's SUV "X5". The overall height is slightly low, so it looks somewhat smart. The era of showing status by size itself is a thing of the past. The grille, which is too large for the front face area, has become a hot topic in recent BMWs, but perhaps because it has already been accustomed to the "M4" and "M3", it is not something that I would like to say.
The reason why I couldn't immediately understand the body size when I looked at it from the outside may be because the 22-inch wheels that were installed on this test car had a particularly strong presence. The lower part of the greenhouse draws an upward curve toward the rear of the body, and the side view, in which the lower part of the body is treated in black, has the effect of visually suppressing the thickness of the body in the vertical direction regardless of the skin color.
These design techniques are also used in the Lamborghini Urus, adding lightness and dynamism to the large and heavy SUV look. Of course, it is actually a heavyweight that far exceeds 2 tons, and has enough mass as an SUV. However, the body shape of a well-trained athlete, which does not feel that way, is an extension of BMW cars so far, but also impresses the arrival of a new era. For reference, the Cd value, which is an index of air resistance, has been announced as 0.25.
